December 2011 - THUN BRINGS THE NATIVITY SCENE AND THE CHRISTMAS TREE BACK TO PIAZZA SAN MARCO
So it’s been a rather special Christmas for Venice and particularly for St. Mark’s Square. After many years the Thun nativity scene in Piazzetta dei Leoncini is back, along with a tree adorned with lights and decorations, which has been given by the Province of Bolzano. Part of the inauguration of this special Christmas scene: a performance by the “Pueri Cantores” choir of Vicenza and Veneto directed by Maestro Fioretto and players from the theatre company “La Stanza”, “Teatro dei Piccoli” and the Falier workshop led by Giovanna Cordova.
International Christmas songs and readings from the prophets were followed with Christmas wishes from Enrico Bressan (chairman of Fondaco), Count Peter Thun (president of Thun spa), Giorgio Orsoni (the mayor of Venice) and with the holy blessing of the nativity scene by Monsignor Antonio Meneguolo (patriarchal delegate to the Basilica of St. Mark). Despite the persistent rain, the large number of people present had an enjoyable time and applauded the event which marked a fitting start to Christmas festivities by creating an exciting and joyful atmosphere.
